Buckeye State Bank Scholarship

Mickie Leagre Scholarship

Established by Richard M. Leagre (Class of 1955) in honor of his wife, Ruth Maxine (Keenen) Leagre (Class of 1956).

Following her graduation from high school in the spring of 1956, Mickie took an evening college class and worked full-time at the ASC office in Bellefontaine until she had saved enough money to enroll at Ohio Northern University in the fall of 1957, majoring in elementary education. Despite marriage and a baby, she completed her two year certification requirements in 1959, and was certified to teach in Ohio.

The selection is made annually by a Committee of faculty selected and chaired by the Riverside Schools Superintendent on the basis of criteria that exemplify a strong determination to achieve higher education. Applicants must show a financial need, and the academic ability to be successful at the college level. Exceptionally high grades in high school are not required. The Committee has been asked to give preference to a student desiring to major in elementary education, but that is certainly not a prerequisite, and the Committee, in its discretion, may make grants to any worthy students seeking higher education.

Scholarship amount is $1,000
